Start with the official format
UHR specifies 60 questions and 90 minutes of actual test time. The test is in Swedish, on paper, and each item has four options with one correct answer. There is no penalty for a wrong answer. A useful plan must leave time for reading, marking, and a final check.
Work in three passes
The first pass is for confident and reasonably quick answers. Read the whole question and all four options, mark an answer when you can justify it, and continue. If you become stuck, flag the question for review in the way the test supervisor permits.
The second pass is for questions you skipped or found uncertain. Identify exactly what is being asked, eliminate options that conflict with your source knowledge, and compare what remains.
The third pass is the final check. Look for blank answers, incorrectly transferred marks, and questions where you may have missed a negative word.
Use simple checkpoints
- After 30 minutes: aim to have worked through about 20 questions.
- After 60 minutes: aim for about 40 questions.
- With 15 minutes left: begin revisiting and checking.
- With 5 minutes left: make sure every question has a marked answer.
This is a private working strategy, not UHR’s official timetable. Adjust it during practice simulations. Some questions may take 20 seconds and others may require two minutes.
Read the question before judging the options
Identify the task: does it ask for a public authority, a responsibility, a historical event, or the best description of a right? Pay particular attention to words such as not, mainly, always, and best. An option can be generally true but still fail to answer the particular question.
Guess when necessary
UHR explicitly states that wrong answers do not receive negative marks. If you remain uncertain after a reasonable amount of time, eliminate what you can and select the best remaining option. Leaving the item blank offers no advantage. Do not spend so long on one item that you lose time for several later questions.
Practise the strategy at full length
Complete at least one 60-question session with a visible 90-minute timer. Note when you reach questions 20 and 40 and how much review time remains. Afterwards, analyse not only subject errors but also timing errors: items you rushed unnecessarily, spent too long on, or marked incorrectly despite correct reasoning.
