875 took the test and about 80% passed
The first citizenship test in knowledge of Swedish society was held on 15 August 2026. On 22 October, UHR announced that 875 people had taken it and roughly four in five had achieved a passing result.
The pass mark was 28 out of 40 points, or 70% of the scored questions. The University of Gothenburg proposed the cut score using established scientific methods, and UHR then approved it.
One participant’s account: Tahereh scored exactly 28
On 24 October, Sveriges Radio reported on test participant Tahereh Taqadussi, who answered exactly 28 questions correctly—the pass mark. She said she had felt uncertain and stressed since test day and was very happy when she learned that she had passed.
She hopes her citizenship case can now move forward and that she can obtain a passport and visit relatives in Germany. This is one participant’s personal account, not evidence about every candidate and not a guarantee of a decision or processing time in any citizenship case.
Why were 40 questions scored when the test contained 60?
The August sitting was a field trial containing 60 questions. After statistical and qualitative analysis, 40 questions were judged to work well enough to form the basis of the result. Scores are therefore reported out of 40, not 60.
A pass mark of 28 out of 40 does not mean that the other 20 answers were automatically marked wrong. Those trial questions were excluded from the final score calculation.
How to view your result
If you took the test, sign in to UHR’s registration account to see your total score. The account shows how many of the scored questions you answered correctly.
UHR transfers the result directly to the Swedish Migration Agency for continued processing of your citizenship case. Contact UHR’s test support if the account says “No result” or something appears incorrect. Questions about how the result affects your case should go to the Migration Agency.
The actual test questions will not be published
The test and each candidate’s right and wrong answers are protected by test secrecy. UHR therefore does not publish the August paper, an answer key or item-level results.
UHR has published five official sample questions. All other questions on Provkollen are independent practice questions based on the Sverige i fokus learning material; they are neither leaked nor official exam questions.
The next test is planned for April–May 2027
UHR plans the next society-knowledge test for April–May 2027. As of 24 October 2026, the exact date, venues, registration window, question count and duration had not been published.
A new registration is required for the next sitting. You can register only after receiving an instruction letter from the Swedish Migration Agency. Registration remains closed until UHR announces the next window.
The test fee is SEK 2,000 from 2027
Under Sweden’s citizenship-test regulation, the fee is SEK 2,000 per test sitting. The fee provision applies for the first time to tests held in 2027.
The fee does not apply to a stateless person who has been granted refugee status or a travel document by a Swedish authority. Check UHR’s registration page when booking opens, because practical payment details have not yet been published.
